Pioneering the Future: How Colossal Academy Is Redefining High School Education

High school is often seen as a box to check — a bridge to college, a stretch of years you just have to get through. But at Colossal Academy, we see it differently. We see these years as sacred — a time when students should be discovering who they are, what they care about, and how they want to show up in the world.

This year, we officially launched our high school program, and it feels like a natural evolution of everything we’ve been building. Our focus has always been helping young people transition into adulthood with clarity, confidence, and purpose. We’re not just preparing them for what comes next — we’re preparing them to know themselves deeply, so they can navigate whatever comes their way.

One of the challenges (and gifts) of being a micro school is that we don’t have a hundred-year legacy or an established alumni network like many elite schools. Those institutions often thrive on connection — students rely on one another, build powerful networks, and carry those relationships forward for life. The truth is, that’s what really sets those schools apart: community.

So, how do we recreate that sense of belonging in a modern, Colossal way?

We start by helping our students build their own networks. Our high schoolers are learning how to craft their digital footprint intentionally — creating personal websites, writing blogs that reflect their voices and experiences, and using LinkedIn to connect with mentors, industry professionals, and like-minded peers. It’s not about social media for vanity; it’s about visibility, storytelling, and authentic connection.

This digital approach is our way of expanding what community means. We’re teaching students that they can create their own ecosystem of support — one that grows with them, travels with them, and evolves as they do. It’s about giving them the tools to build relationships that are rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and purpose.
